Ice skating brings seasonal charm -
Long walks in wonderful woodland and skating on a real-ice rink are two of the joys of winter and over this Christmas and New Year period visitors to Sandringham Estate will have the opportunity to do both as the Norfolk Christmas Festival Ice Rink opens for an inaugural three week season from Saturday 15th December 2007.
The thrill of skating in the open air, in wonderful surroundings on a magnificent real-ice rink is guaranteed to enthral all. So wrap up warm with your hat, gloves and scarf over the festive period – with family, friends and work colleagues - and enjoy a session of Christmas ice skating.
The ice rink is under a fantastic futuristic canopy with open sides where skaters are in full view.
Skaters gliding along to the Skaters’ Waltz and other classical favourites from Swan Lake, singing along to plenty of Christmas Carols enhanced by the glorious backdrop of Sandringham Estate Country Park – who could imagine a more perfect setting?
The skating rink canopy will be illuminated with wonderful Christmas lighting effects. The massive fir trees surrounding the rink and leading walkways will be tastefully illuminated and come dusk, the country park will be a mass of twinkling lights.
The real-ice Rink, is almost THREE TIMES the size of the 2006 Rink and the fact that it is under a canopy will go a long way to offset any weather related problems with ‘Ice’
The ice rink measures approximately 600 square metres and has a comfortable capacity of 180 people per session. The Festival Café alongside the ice rink will be serving warming drinks and festive snacks for those wanting to take it easy and relax after their skate while sipping on hot chocolate or mulled wine and nibbling on a warming mince pie and watching others take to the ice.
There is also a Junior Rink for the not so accomplished skaters, and dedicated tickets for this rink are available in advance on the Junior Ice Rink Booking Page.
